As is typical with most video game franchises, the Gex series had a vast amount of strategy guide releases. Each game in the trilogy received several strategy guides that provided the player with hints and tips that would aid them in their gameplay. Below is every strategy guide released, listed by game.

Gex[]

Strategy guide cover

This is a German guide written by Tanja Gehle and published by Microsoft Game Guides. In English, the title translates to: "Gex: Jump-and-Run Over All Obstacles." A first edition of this book was printed in 1997, and a second edition was published in February 1998. Not much is known about this particular guide, as information and photos of it are scarce outside of Germany. What is known about it is that it provided German players with tips for the first Gex game, and likely only covered the PC version.

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko[]

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko: Prima's Unauthorized Strategy Guide[]

PSX-Gex-3-Prima web

Standard version

This guide was released by Prima, and covers Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. Three editions of this guide were offered close to the game's launch. The most common version of this strategy guide is the regular edition that was offered via Prima's website (pictured right). Two retail exclusive editions of this guide were also made, each with their own added bonuses. One was offered at Toys R Us as a pre-order bonus, and came with an exclusive poster. Unfortunately, this poster cannot be viewed in its entirety without being ripped out due to its packaging. However, it is simply the "Gex 3:16" promotional image with a Prima logo in the bottom left corner. The third and most allusive version of this guide is the Hollywood Games exclusive edition. It was offered as a pre-order bonus, and came with a bonus sheet of Gex 3 stickers. This guide features full map layouts of every level in Gex 3. However, since this is an unofficial guide, it lacks an actual overhead map view of each level and instead portrays each section as a solid block of color.

Millennium Presents: Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko - Official Strategy Guide[]

Gex 3 millenium strategy guide

Strategy guide cover

This is another guide covering Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko, released by Millennium Books. Like the Prima guide, it also features map layouts of every level. But instead of each level area being represented by solid blocks of color, they are official overhead map views of the levels.

Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko: Prima's Unauthorized Hint Book[]

Gex 3 64 Hint Book by Prima from Best Buy (no logo)

Only current photo of this guide

This is an odd Gex 3 strategy guide published by Prima. It was offered exclusively at Best Buy, and not only informs the reader about the game's secrets but teaches them some yo-yo tricks as well. Despite being such an odd piece of Gex merchandise, there are very few pictures and information available about the contents of this hint book. This book was most likely created to compliment the Best Buy yo-yo pre-order bonus.

Trivia[]

  • The Hollywood Games Gex 3 guide contains the first and only sheet of Gex tattoos made during the series' run.
