Safari Sam (also known as his codename Al is an enemy that appears in Mystery TV in Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko.

Design and inspiration[]

Safari Sams resemble stereotypical British men with matching accents. Given the original name for Mystery TV, "Clue TV", and the heavy references to the movie and boardgame Clue, Safari Sam may also be based on Colonel Mustard, a character known for wearing (and being represented by) the color yellow. His weapon, a gun, and the location where you find him for the first time, the study, references one of many places in Clue wear the death of Mr. Body, a character whose death is key to the game's plot, took place and one of the weapons used to kill him. Specifically, players would have to figure out where Mr. Body was killed, who killed him, and with what weapon (ex. "It was Colonel Mustard, in the study, with a gun.").

Behavior and strategy[]

Like their counterparts from the second game, the Hunters, they attack Gex by shooting bullets that home in on him (during which they'll say "Hold still!"). Unlike their Toon TV counterparts however, they only take one hit to beat (and when hit they'll exclaim "I say!")

Trivia[]

  • In demos, Safari Sams are the only enemies encountered in Mystery TV if one excludes mini-games.
