Lizard of Oz is the second boss level of Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko

Setting and inspiration[]

The boss level is based on L. Frank Baum's story The Wizard of Oz, namely its classic 1939 film adaptation. The level's title, "Lions, Tigers and Gex" is based on the "lions, tigers and bears, oh my!" line from the film.

Strategy[]

You simply dodge the fireballs he spits out and any Crab TV Rezlings that appear. It's a little difficult considering that the fireballs home in on Gex and the Rezlings follow him. A cannon will appear in a random area of the stage and Gex needs to go on it and fire the cannonball on the Brain of Oz. Repeat until he is defeated.

Trivia[]

  • Strangely, all of the black highlights in the TV logo image are replaced with white in the PS1 version. It is unknown why these white highlights were added in this version. However, since Gex 3's development was fairly rushed and the PlayStation version released first, this is likely a texture coloring error that made it into the final game. This mistake was later fixed in the N64 port of the game. Either this, or it was an intentional design choice by the developers that was later omitted. It is possible that both versions were meant to be in the final release of the game, to give the TV screen a more "animated" appearance. However, this idea was scrapped due to time constraints. Of course, without any sort of confirmation, this is just speculation.
