Jaws1 is a cut boss level from Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. It is playable in the December 30, 1998 PlayStation prototype under the N64 level section. However, no such level appears in the N64 version of the released game.

Description[]

The level takes place in a parody of Amity Island called Scamity Island if the billboard on the beach is any indicator. Boardwalks, a large rock and a beach surround several rafts and a rectangular platform. Players are able to explore the beach, which is gated, and the boardwalk surrounding the platforms. There is also a slow moving monorail above the gates separating the beach from the water. A prototype Golden Fly is on the platform closest to the beach. This implies that this stage was scrapped very early in Gex 3's development, as this Golden Fly design would eventually be replaced with the flatter, blue and gold design seen in the final game. However, its placement in the boss arena suggests it was mainly use to indicate where Rex would spawn in when he entered the boss level. In the center of the stage is an untextured, almost statue-like Mooshoo Pork. The presence of what look like large guns connected to Mooshoo Pork's udders by some kind of wires or tubes imply that Mooshoo Pork was supposed to be the boss of this stage, which, given the level's layout, most likely involved having Gex hopping from platform to platform dodging Mooshoo Pork's milk blasters until Mooshoo Pork was made vulnerable somehow. Had this level been completed, Mooshoo Pork would have been the only recurring boss character in the series besides Rez himself.

Trivia[]

  • The level is a reference to the "Jaws" movie franchise.
  • The inital fly coin model can be found in this level, opposed to their final design. Interestingly, the collectable looks more akin to how they looked in the first Gex game.
