E3 1999 Canvas Bag

E3 1999 canvas bag featuring Gex.

The Eidos Gex Canvas Tote Bag is a variant of canvas bag merchandise offered by Eidos Interactive. It is a white bag made of cotton canvas material, and features three of Eidos's most iconic gaming franchises for the year of 1999 (as well as the company's logo and website). This particular bag shown was given out to attendees at E3 1999 by Eidos booth employees. However, bags similar to this one could've (most likely) been purchased via Eidos' website as well. A recent listing of this bag sold for $70, and is the current market value for this item.

  • This canvas bag template was later re-used to promote the then upcoming release of Fear Effect. In this variant, Gex has been replaced by Hana Tsu-Vachel (the main protagonist of the Fear Effect series). Another curious change about this bag is that it features the updated web address for Eidos's website. As opposed to the other characters, the reason for Gex's removal from this bag is likely due to the fact that a new game in the series wasn't coming out in 2000 (Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2 was initially slated for a 2000 release, but was pushed back to 2001).
